Once again St Peter was aglow with twinkling candles and fairy lights for our popular and well attended Candlelit Carol Service on 18th December 2016. The Rev Canon Lee Francis-Dehqani led the service of seven carols and readings which were read by Edward Baines, William Bell, Mary Brooks, Robert Eayres, Terry Greer, Margaret Lamb and Sue Tyers. Connie Beadman played the organ, John Beadman and his team of bell ringers rang a welcoming peal as everyone arrived for the service on a dark winter’s night. Terry and Gill Greer’s granddaughter Maddie charmed us all as she sang a beautiful solo for the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Afterwards there were seasonal refreshments of mulled wine, mince pies and nibbles kindly provided by Derek Harrington and the Brooke ladies. The collection this year will be given to Christian Aid.
St Peter was resplendent with red and green floral decorations and a pretty Christmas tree for the 8am Christmas Day communion service which was taken by the Rev Brian Nicholls. A special little person also joined us for a blessing as her father had done one Christmas Day when he was just three weeks old. Joining us was the 7week old daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Crosher, her parents and grandparents had been married at Brooke and her great grandparents the late John and Pauline Jenkinson were previous long term residents of Brooke.
And to amuse those of you trying to stick to New Year resolutions a couple of ‘typos’ ……
“Weight Watchers will meet at 7pm at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use the large double doors at the side entrance”.
