Mums were surprised by the gift of bouquets of spring flowers in Uppingham Market place on Friday 24 March. This floral offering, an early Mothering Sunday gift, was to help launch the ten days of events that the churches of Uppingham and Belton plan for May.
How does it launch the festival? Mothering Sunday is exactly 50 days before the beginning of the Alive Mission on 12 May.
“The Alive Mission week will be first and foremost about having fun,” says Geoff Thompson, one of the Alive organisers. “Many of the events will be free and are spread across the day but all will have a very short talk on why many of us think being a Christian and the role of Jesus in our lives is so important.”
Alive Mission is a festival of events and meetings organised by the combined forces of the Anglican, Methodist and Congregational churches in Uppingham and Belton and involving the whole congregation of each. There will be something for everyone; pub quizzes, a panto, cookery and bread making demonstrations will rub shoulders with a Songs of Praise and a Questiontime event.
