The Women’s World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland there are now over 3,000 branches holding 5,000 services every year.

The origins of Women’s World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women in the USA and Canada initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women’s involvement in mission, at home and abroad, centred around concern for women and children and the role of prayer in mission work.

Preparations for the 2017 day began with a Coffee Morning & Cake Stall on Wednesday 16 November at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, the the Discovery Day to find out more about this year’s theme on Friday 27 January at Oakham Methodist Church, and the service on the day itself was on Friday 3 March at All Saints Oakham.
