Music

Music is an important part of worship in our Team churches, and we value strong congregational singing, supported and led by choir or music group as appropriate.

Choirs

The choir at Oakham sings at the Parish Communion every Sunday morning except the third Sunday of the month, and the villages of Whissendine, Langham and Market Overton all have a small choir which sings at their respective Sunday services.

The choirs join together to form the Team choir, called Laudamus, which sings at Team services on occasional Sundays (usually the fifth Sunday), principal Holy Days such as Advent Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and Evensong on the third Sunday.

Director of Music

The music at Oakham is directed by the Director of Music August Guan, BA MMus  , who also oversees the music in the other Team churches, including the coordination of organists for the sung services.

Organs

Seven of the ten Team churches have pipe organs, the other three having electronic instruments, the Kenneth Tickell instrument at Oakham being the jewel in the crown. Further details can be found here.

Concerts

A regular series of Wednesday lunchtime concerts is promoted at Oakham, along with Bank Holiday organ recitals and occasional evening concerts. Langham Church also promotes regular evening concerts, and other occasional concerts take place in other Team churches.
