Churches Together in Oakham are running an Alpha Course this autumn, to be held at the Baptist Church. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.
Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes – you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
The local launch supper will be on Monday 24th September, at 7:15pm, at Oakham Baptist Church. There will be a supper and a guest speaker and for those who then decide to sign up for the course, it will run on consecutive Mondays from the 1st October to 3rd December. People can sign up via the OBC church website or by emailing us at alpha@oakhambaptist.org.uk.
There are also invitation cards at the back of church which can either be filled in and handed to one of the ministry team, or dropped off at the Baptist Church. This is an ideal opportunity to experience the Alpha Course for yourself, and/or invite a friend who may be asking questions of faith that you struggle with too, to come along with you to the introductory supper on 24th September. As always, there is no commitment expected at this first meeting, but names of attendees should be given beforehand, either by phone to the church office on 01572 724990, or by email to alpha@oakhambaptist.org.uk. Subsequent meetings will be at the same location on Monday evenings, 7:15pm-9:15pm, until 3rd December. The Away Day will be on 10th November, 10:00am-4:00pm.
As well as thinking about joining the course, or inviting a friend to, there are opportunities to help run the course, and all offers of help on the team will be welcomed, whether to cook, wash up, pray, lay tables, move chairs, lead a small group, or even provide small flower arrangements for the tables. If you are interested, there will be an Alpha Training Evening on Monday 3rd September, 7:15pm-9:15pm at OBC, which is open to anyone. It will be a ‘dress rehearsal’ for the forthcoming Alpha launch and an opportunity for all to see what Alpha is about and to incorporate some training for those involved at the coal face.
