The Friends coach trip on Saturday 25 May to Hull had an early start but the journey went like clockwork and the traffic flowed freely on our scenic route.
The weather was perfect and our first stop was The Deep, a world renowned aquarium with over 3000 species of fish, including magnificent sharks and rays. It is housed in a dramatic building overlooking the Humber Estuary and in recent years has started playing a large part in marine conservation. The friendly staff were also very knowledgeable, and the visit was very much enjoyed by our group.
We were able to enjoy various lunch options in the Trinity Quarter before heading over to the Minster for our tour, where we were fortunate to see a pretty wedding emerging into the sunshine. The guided tour was very good and went well, despite the guides having to compete with the organist practising for Evensong. The choir was tremendous though and sang so beautifully, it was quite moving.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious cream tea, at tables all set for six, with pots of tea and plates of gorgeous scones filled with jam, cream and fresh strawberries. A real treat! Our journey home was just as uneventful and smooth as the journey there and we found ourselves back in Oakham in good time, having enjoyed a wonderful day out.
