As I write we are approaching the most momentous and loving act which is the foundation and heart of our faith-the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and his glorious resurrection. James reminds us:
“You see, a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone ….. as the body without Spirit is dead so faith without deeds is dead”
(James 2 24 & 26)
And St Matthew reminds us of the words of Jesus:
” … whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine you did it for me”
In the monstrous suffering and starvation we are being made aware of in many parts of the world there is a clarion call for help and support.
In this month’s magazine Peter Townsend seeks help to cover all the streets of our Benefice collecting for Christian Aid. We rely on Christian Aid and many other charities to work for us and it is by prayer for them and donations to them that we can make the difference to which Peter points.
In the words of a hymn we often sing can we justify our faith?
“Whom shall I Send?”
“Here I am Lord, is it I Lord?
“I will go Lord if you lead me”
“I will hold your people in my heart”
The answer to the question is a clear Yes we can.
