Christian Aid week

Christian Aid Week returns on May 14th to 20th for a 60th Anniversary celebration, gloriously achieved It takes Centre Stage with these challenging ‘quotes’ from the Three Co-ordinators of CHRISTIAN AID in the East Midlands – Martin, Judi and Nick.

MARTIN affirms how” CHRISTIAN AID is the biggest act of Christian Witness in the U K , so I get excited ! It is so good to serve a compassionate God who loves everyone – poor, marginalised, alien, stranger; people who do not fit in; who are not wanted ! CHRISTIAN AID WEEK demonstrates God’s love ;and that rocks the world!”

JUDI, for her part, gets excited “when the Church gets out and about, taking a stand against poverty, together with a Power that brings change!”

NICK reminds us that, in CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 2017, “we are returning to our roots, for it was a refugee crisis in Europe which motivated the Church to respond, with unconditional love and compassion , to establish CHRISTIAN AID”!

ST EDMUND’s will answer the summons , in this praiseworthy DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR, to tour the Parish door- to- door, aiming to gain a similar, commendable response to the essential challenge which CHRISTIAN AID WEEK imposes.

To quote once more – this time from Jesus himself –

“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; thirsty and you gave me a drink; a stranger and you invited me in; naked and you clothed me; sick and you looked after me; in prison and you visited me;”
“Lord, when was it … ?”
“I assure you that whatever you did for the humblest of my brethren you did for Me!”
Matthew 25

Beyond CHRISTIAN AID WEEK, though still in May-time, our ASCENSION-TIDE ACCLAMATION of Jesus, the Risen and Ascending Lord, falls due: Charles Wesley readily offers his help – in unsurpassed fashion!

Hail the day that sees HIM rise: ravished from our wistful eyes!
Christ, awhile to mortals given, re-ascends HIS native heaven:
Him though highest heaven receives, still He loves the earth He leaves:
Though returning to His throne, still He calls mankind His own
See! He lifts His hands above: See! He shows the prints of love:
Hark! His gracious lips bestow blessings on His Church below.
