A rare beautiful day on 25th June saw Rev Julie perform the marriage ceremony at St Peter of doctors Kate Elizabeth Eayrs, daughter of Robert and Maggie Eayrs of Priory Farm, Brooke and Thomas Frederick Barge. The four bridesmaids were in cornflower blue dresses and Kate’s little nephew Harry was the page boy; they spent their honeymoon on safari in Botswana and Zambia. Kate and Thomas met whilst doing medicine at Oxford, after qualifying they worked in the Oxford area and then spent two years working in New Zealand but are now based back in Oxford where Kate is working in Paediatrics and Thomas in Anaesthetics.
The Patronal Festival of St Peter was celebrated at evensong on Sunday 3rd July when Bishop John Flack gave a very thoughtful and interesting sermon. Afterwards, a seasonal treat of scones, strawberries and cream served with wine was enjoyed by all the congregation in the chapel.
A PCC meeting was held at Abbey Barn, Brooke on the evening of the 4th August when several people were unable to attend due to holidays or illness. Rev Julie chaired the meeting; there was much to discuss from a recent interesting stewardship meeting, proposals for the form of service for future festivals to bringing the activities of St Peter to a wider audience via a web site. Thank you Gill and Terry for your hospitality, the next PCC meeting will be on 9th October 2016 at Rose Cottage, Brooke.
